Day 1 : Paris
The beginning of my European adventure starts with a plane flight from Atlanta to Miami. Jamie and I were unable to get seats next to each other on this flight, so I ended up next to two large black guys that were speaking in another language. I fell asleep at some point during our flight and kept waking up to the binging of the seatbelt sign forgetting where I was. One of the times that I woke up I had managed to maneuver myself onto the shoulder of one of those guys. Awkward. Eye contact ensued and I did what was most logical at the time, which was even more awkward. I quickly turned around and managed to avoid eye contact for the rest of the flight. At the Miami airport, I got a guava and cheese pastry (couldn't help myself). The flight to Paris from Miami was excruciating. First Jamie asked the passenger next to her if we could trade places, it took some time, but I was finally able to join her in the back of the plane. I fell asleep in the beginning of the flight for around thirty minutes, but then for the rest of the 9 hour flight I could not get situated. I changed positions a thousand times, managing to awaken some agitated people in front of me. Jamie slumbered like a babe most of the flight. After a sleepless flight we arrived. At customs, the man in the window stamped Jamie and my Passports without ink, so we have no proof of us arriving in Paris. The group of us with doey, confused eyes were herded around the airport with guides that seemed to like to place us in the middle of everything blocking the way of others. Finally we found our bus driver and managed to get to the bus. I felt weird leaving one man to load our 50 odd luggages and once he started moving them to the other side of the bus Jamie asked our coordinator if we could help him. A couple of people helped also, but most of the people on our trip seem to have an air of superiority. The bus ride was pretty long and I fell asleep with my water bottle in my lap and it leaked all over me. Once at the hotel, again Jamie and I helped move the luggages. This one frat boy really irked me, because we started an assembly line, but every time I passed a luggage to him, he would just stare at it like it was a bomb and I would have to move it to the next person myself. Jamie and I have a room together, it is a really nice room with a large shower with two heads. We have already walked around Paris a little and ate goat cheese with olive oil at a cafe. I forgot the pin number to my credit card, though, so I have been unable to obtain money. Not good. It is only 5 pm right now and we are getting situated in our room. We are having dinner at 8 pm tonight at a restaurant with a fancy French name that I cannot remember. After that who knows.
