Day 2: Paris
Early start today, class started at 8 am and our FREE breakfast happened at 7 am. The breakfast was pretty good and class put Jamie to sleep. I kept waking her up since we were in the front row. After that I roamed the city alone for a second in order to find a purse to carry so I wouldn't have to tote my backpack around. It was nice exploring on my own, too bad everyone thought I spoke French. Then we went to the Louvre. We bought metro passes for the next three days and arrived at the Louvre just in time. I was in the second group and Jamie was in the first. I had to wait for the first group so I explored the Egyptian section. My watch broke yesterday, so I had no idea what time it was, but I got terribly lost. All of the Egyptian things looked very alike and I saw the same statue from all angles. I finally made it to the group after missing the Mona Lisa. Oh well, I hear it's not that great. We looked at some famous pieces like "The Raft of Medusa" and "The oath of the Horatii". It was really interesting. After that we ventured off and saw Notre Dame from the outside, I had to leave to visit my cousin, Elizabeth, for dinner. I had to change trains about three times in order to get close to her hotel. I finally got there but had to figure my way out with a very non-descriptive map, a lot of streets were missing. Some how I managed to find the place. Elizabeth, Keith, and I went to cafe central, it was really and good. Also it was the first place with a vegetarian dish. I had hot goat cheese salad (warm goat cheese covering brie on top of bread that had fruit embedded in it) and asparagus and cheese rizoto. After dinner I went to meet my friends at the Eiffel Tower. We waited in line for an ETERNITY. Elizabeth and Keith happened to be going to the Eiffel Tower, also, strange coincidence. Finally we made it to the top after getting separated. The view was spectacular and it was extremely windy. We got hot drinks and dessert at the cafe in the Eiffel Tower. It was delicious. Most of my Eiffel Tower experience was waiting in line though, we even had to wait in line to get down. My friends and I got onto the Metro and headed home. When we got off at our stop and EXTREMELY drunk guy that is on the program with is started talking to us about his secret job with bombs and his recent breakup with his girlfriend, both of which he said he would rather not talk about. He asked us where we worked and I responded with "You think I have a job? haha" and he retorted with "Your terribly cute" in exchange I told him "I don't need a job, then." apparently this makes me "feisty". It was a good laugh before coming back to the hotel and having to pass out at 1:30 before classes at 8 tomorrow.
